J. Theresa Bush is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 and Associate Professor of Costume Design and Technology at University of Southern Mississippi where her research centers equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. She served as Associate Costume Designer to Toni-Leslie James. Credits include Flying Over Sunset for Broadway’s Lincoln Center Theatre, Familiar for Yale Repertory Theatre and Bull Durham for the Alliance. J. Theresa has designed regionally for companies including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, The Warehouse Theatre, and Virginia Rep. Awards include the USM’s 2020 IHL Excellence in Diversity Award, Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Award, KCACTF Faculty Excellence in Costume Design, and USM Honor’s College Recognition of Superior Mentorship. She served as costume shop manager for the Williamstown Theatre Festival 2012 season producing the Broadway premiers of Far From Heaven and The Elephant Man. She created costumes for regional houses including Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Lexington Children’s Theatre, and she served as Dolly Parton’s alterations specialist. J. Theresa is an Association of College and University Educators certified Effective College Instructor and she serves the Southeastern Theatre Conference as the Chair of the Scholarships Committee and Coordinator for the Smith Scholarship. Original work includes Theatrical Intimacy Education for Costume Designers and Technicians first presented at the 2019 National Women’s Theatre Festival.
