Amanda Rose Villarreal is an intimacy coordinator and choreographer based in the Los Angeles area. They aim to unleash artistic collaborators by offering consent-based and trauma-conscious tools to support artistic agency and the creative process.

Amanda Rose serves as Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance and Subject Area Coordinator for the Theatre Education Credential at California State University Fullerton, where they teach consent-based performance pedagogy. As well as training performers and educators to utilize consent-based practices throughout California, their artistry as an intimacy choreographer has been featured in productions at Geffen Playhouse, Pasadena Playhouse, Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company, and The Tank NYC.

As an immersive performer, devising artist, and director, Amanda Rose has specific expertise in consent-based practices for devised, improvised, and immersive works. They have crafted risk-aware consent negotiation mechanics tailored to fit the diegetic world of immersive, gamified, and audience-engaged performances and larp events such as Sinking Ship Creation, Texas Renaissance Festival, and Otherworld Theatre.

Amanda Rose earned their MA in Theatrical Production with an emphasis on Directing from Central Washington University, and her PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. Their dissertation, Unscripted Intimacies: Negotiating Consent in Gamified Performance analyzed consent communication in immersive performance and larp, arguing that creating a consent-based culture extends beyond staging specific moments and into the design process and audience interaction.
